South Korea reported 145 new COVID-19 cases on Friday 117 of which were locally transmitted, with 28 from overseas.
The surge comes as cluster infections continue to spike nationwide.
One of those clusters was from a call center in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do Province.
As of Thursday night, the call center confirmed that 21 workers have tested positive.
The virus also spread outside the call center, to 9 other people including the workers’ family members.
The nearby city of Asan also saw a separate chain infection of 11 people.
To tame the spread in Cheonan and Asan, health authorities are raising social distancing measures to level 1.5 in both cities, becoming the only place in the country to take social distancing measures up a notch from level one.
