Former South Korean President Lee Myung-bak was taken to a temporary cell today, the Supreme Court last week having upheld a sentence of 17 years in prison.
He was found guilty in 2018 of embezzlement and bribery; then he appealed and lost.
He was taken this afternoon to the Seoul Dongbu Detention Center, the same place he was held for a year after his conviction until he was released on bail.
According to procedure, Lee would be moved to a prison in three to four weeks, but there’s a possibility that he serves his remaining 16 years in the detention center instead.
