But Moon is doing all he can to back Yoowho faces stiff competition from Nigerian candidate Ngozi Okonjo-Iwealaa well-known figure in the international community who worked for the World Bank for 25 years.
Okonjo-Iweala has the full support of African countries and major European states.
But with the final round scheduled to end next Tuesday, President Moon has also asked Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun and his predecessor Lee Nak-yeon to appeal to their counterparts around the world to back Yoo’s bid.
Blue House spokesperson Kang Min-seok said Wednesday that President Moon has continuously highlighted Yoo’s expertise, devotion to multilateralism as well as her political influence.
