South Korea is planning to secure a COVID-19 plasma treatment by the end of this year and develop a vaccine by next year.
The ambitious plan was announced on Monday by the Director-General of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, Jeong Eun-kyeong.
She was speaking at a ceremony in which her agency was officially promoted as an independent government body in its own right.
She said her agency is going to establish a National Institute of Infectious Diseases, which will secure the treatment for South Korea and develop the country’s own vaccine.
